11A – Idea Napkin No. 1

Who am I? I am a licensed insurance agent in the states of Florida, Georgia, Texas and Arizona. I have 21 years of experience in life and health insurance sales. I am contracted with major insurance carriers to acquire customers for their products and services. I currently work with the Senior market and those who do not have employer-based coverage to gain Marketplace coverage. I also assist with providing additional referral services to help those who can’t obtain coverage or need help with prescription drug coverage.

What do I offer to consumers? I provide guidance and counseling to the general public regarding healthcare options available. Healthcare is usually prohibitively expensive not to have some type of coverage. So, someone needs insurance or healthcare coverage to see a physician, have lab tests, obtain medication, or receive surgery I can inform them of the options that are available and help them choose a plan that best fits their needs. I assist in the selection and enrollment process. I am compensated by the carriers, so I do not have to charge for my services.

Who do I offer my services to? I offer my services specifically to Medicare beneficiaries regardless of age. I specialize in dealing with those who are turning 65 years of age and have incomes of less than $30,000/yr. I also can assist those with higher incomes in choosing an appropriate plan. For those who are not Medicare beneficiaries, my target market includes those who are earning above the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) for the number of members in their household. They must have an income above the established FPL amount and not have access to employer-based coverage. The general service area includes Orange, Osceola, Seminole, Lake, Brevard, Volusia and Polk counties. However, the entire state of Florida is effectively my service area.

Why do they care? When someone is sick, they need medical attention. Usually, the cost of treatment not important in relation to the need or demand of treatment. However, without proper coverage most providers will not treat an individual and the emergency room is the last option available. Since emergency rooms (ERs) are not designed to be primary care facilities, the cost to use them is exorbitant. Proper treatment for most conditions requires having a primary care physician and access to labs and diagnostic services. These services are expensive, and the average consumer cannot afford to pay the out-of-pocket costs. Therefore, health coverage is necessary to afford the costs involved.

What are my core competencies? My core competency is compassion. I want to see people experience the best possible health outcomes. Secondly, I do have a broad knowledge base concerning how the industry works and I am able to explain complicated concepts in a very simple and easy to understand way. I consider myself an educator, and I desire for the consumer to gain as much knowledge as possible so that consumers can take responsibility for their own healthcare and work with providers to obtain the best possible outcomes.

My approach to help the customers is going to work. The reason I am confident that I will succeed is because I am already having success putting my ideas to work. I need to improve core systems such as customer relationship management, target marketing, strengthening compliance policy and putting accounting systems in place. I really need to assess future sales goals and map out a plan to reach them. Also, I am working strenuously to become more informed about the actual process of healthcare and how it works from the consumer, carrier, provider and governmental perspectives.
