Cash is valuable because it is widely accepted as a mean
of payment. Without payment business is not conducted. However, because it is
so common, it is not rare. I can not be legally copied, so it is inimitable.
There are several substitutes for cash such as checks, credit cards, lines of
credit, etc.
Human Resources
Sales Experience (Valuable, Rare, Inimitable, Non-Substitutable)
My sales experience is very valuable because sales drive revenue.
With experienced sales staff a company can exponentially increase revenue. It
is not necessarily rare because there are many salespeople, however my skills
are unique because I have over 30 years of experience and 30 years is difficult
to imitate. The timeframe also makes it difficult to substitute.
Industry knowledge (Valuable, Not Rare, Not
Inimitable, Non-Substitutable)
Knowledge of an industry is valuable because it enables a
person to speak authoritatively about a subject and therefore have credibility.
I have 20 years of knowledge in the industry. Many people have knowledge about the
healthcare industry that knowledge is not rare or inimitable. There is no substitute
for what I know.
Industry contacts (Valuable, Not Rare, Not Inimitable,
Substitutable)
Knowing people in an industry is very valuable. Contacts can
provide vital information and insight on how to accomplish business objectives.
My list of contacts is valuable. My contacts can be rare depending on the circumstances
due to the time spent developing a relationship, but usually they are not. Since
there are many people working in the same industry, my business contacts are
not inimitable and can be substituted for another contact in the same industry.
Community contacts - (Valuable, Not Rare, Not Inimitable,
Substitutable)
My contacts within the local community are very valuable
because they allow me to have access to potential customers. I have many contacts,
so they are not rare or inimitable because many provide the same services. My contacts
are substitutable because of the overlapping services offered.
Marketing Support (Valuable, Not
Rare, Not Inimitable, Non-Substitutable)
Marketing support is invaluable. Getting the message out concerning
a product or service is not optional, it is necessary for the success of a
business. There are many companies that will help market a product or service
and therefore support is not rare, or inimitable. If a company is not doing a
good job, just hire another. Marketing support from a business partner has no
substitute.
Intellectual
Customer database (Valuable, Rare, Inimitable, Non-Substitutable)
A customer database is valuable especially the larger it
gets. It is a source of additional sales and referrals for future sales. It is
rare because it is unique to my company and the database is inimitable and
non-substitutable
LLC formed - (Valuable, Not Rare, Inimitable, Substitutable)
I have formed a limited liability company and it is a
valuable tool to conduct business. My company is not rare in the healthcare
market. The name and brand are inimitable and as of now, no company that I know
of is offering the set of services that COHA offers to customers. There are
many healthcare marketing companies that can substitute for our services.
Domain name - (Valuable, Rare, Inimitable, Non-Substitutable)
The www.mycoha.com and www.mycoha.com domain names are valuable.
In fact, I have already had an offered from another party to purchase one of
them. The domain names are unique by design and therefore rare and inimitable.
Since you can have only one domain that is that domain, there is no substitute.
Culture - (Valuable, Rare, Not Inimitable, Non-Substitutable)
The culture at COHA is probably one of the most valuable resources the company has. It is based on servant leadership. In today's world, I believe this is rare. However, it can be easily be copied if companies chose to do so. However, there is no substitution for serving others and for COHA this is non-negotiable.
Physical
Virtual Office - (Valuable, Not Rare, Not
Inimitable, Substitutable)
COHA has established a virtual office which is valuable
but not rare because many offices operate virtually. A virtual office is easily
imitated and substituted for a physical office.
My most valuable resource is my sales knowledge, followed by culture. My ability to sell is more important than any other resource because it drives revenue. This revenue will allow me to acquire all other resources that are necessary to be successful. I can hire people that are smarter and more capable in my weak areas with sufficient funds. My main concerns are to drive revenue and create a culture that encourages personal growth and service to others..
